Delhi HC says it’s a father’s duty to maintain his daughters, contribute to education, wedding

The Delhi High Court has recently ruled that it is a father’s duty to maintain his daughters and take responsibility of their education as well as their marriage irrespective of the fact that the daughters employed and earning well and have attained majority.The division bench comprising of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh stated that there is a difference between earning an income and the ability to maintain them.

The bench was hearing a plea filed by the wife who challenged the order of family court, where the wife was granted divorce on the ground of cruelty but maintenance towards her daughters including herself was denied by the court.The father was directed by the family court to pay maintenance for the minor son but refused any relief to two major daughters, who aged above 18 years of age.
