Delhi High Court has asked the Centre, AAP government why a girl suffering from a disability (patient suffers from shorter fingers and sometimes the fingers might be missing also) was denied admission in the Lady Hardinge Medical College.

The single-judge bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul also issued notice to the College, Delhi University and the Nursing council on the plea by one Jeenat.

According to the plea filed through advocate Ashok Agarwal, Jeenat who belonged to the OBC category, appeared for the exam under the physically disabled category in the Lady Hardinge College. Two seats were reserved for the persons with disability (PWD).

She qualified the written exams following which she was called for the counselling. However, to her utter dismay, she was refused admission on the grounds of her disability.

Aggrieved by this, she knocked the court’s door to sought the response from the various authorities.

The plea had contended that the decision to deny admission is totally “arbitrary”, “discriminatory”, “unjust” and “violations of the rights of person with disability”.

The plea sought that Jeenat be granted admission in the college in the PWD category which is still lying vacant.

The matter would be now heard on October 25.
