Delhi riots: Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad presents arguments before Delhi High Court on bail plea of Umar Khalid in UAPA case

The Delhi High Court on Monday heard arguments on the bail application of activist and former JNU student Umar Khalid, arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the larger conspiracy, leading to riots in the national capital in February, 2020.

Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad presented his arguments before the High Court today.

Earlier during the hearing, Delhi Police said Khalid was the mastermind of the CAA-NRC protest, who instigated people during the protest.

Though it was not easy to find things from the WhatsApp chat, but finally there have retrieved the details from the account, Police said, adding that they have proof to submit that this demonstration was supported by the JCC.

The reports said that Artists, musicians and speakers were brought to the performance venue, so as to keep the people busy and glued to the venue.

“We will explain in detail as to who was handling different demonstration sites and from where,” it said.

Police said it has got hold of some more information pertaining to how the demonstration was managed from a distance by involved parties.

Delhi Police said whatever Sharjeel Imam, another accused in the case under UAPA was doing outside, was reflected in that WhatsApp group. When he was in public meetings, he used to talk about the Constitution, but when he was in private meetings, he used to say something else. When he wanted to blame, he used to blame the BJP, RSS, and others, added Police.
