Gauhati High Court Bar Association requests HC to restore Physical Courts by abolishing virtual Courts

The Gauhati High Court Bar Association has written a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court requesting for restoration of physical Courts by abolishing Virtual Courts.

The Association in its letter stated that the Executive Committee in a meeting held on May 26, has adopted a resolution for restoring Physical Courts from June 1 by abolishing the virtual courts which has been followed since March 24 due to COVID 19 Pandemic.

The Resolution states that the Litigants were unable to get justice through Virtual Courts. Moreover the Government of Assam has also opened all its offices with 100% attendance from May 26 and as such the High Court could also follow the same procedure by complying with all the safety norms.

The Association has however requested the Court to allow Advocates above the age of 65 years to continue to argue their cases via Videoconferencing.

The Association through its Secretary General  Jiten Payeng,  has further urged that all the new motion cases be listed in its usual course as before.
