Allahabad High Court expresses shock over abduction of woman from advocate’s chamber

The Allahabad High Court has expressed shock over the abduction of a woman who had an inter-caste marriage from an advocate’s chamber and called it unfortunate and directed the Prayagraj Senior Superintendent of Police and Jaunpur Superintendent of Police to investigate and present the kidnapped woman.

A single-judge bench of Justice Umesh Kumar passed this order while hearing a petition filed by Smt. Ankita Mishra And Another.

Though there was a specific direction of the Court for personal presence of petitioners before the Court on April 18, the counsel for the petitioners informed that today in connivance with respondent no 4 more than 20 miscreants have surrounded his chambers and forcefully abducted petitioner Smt Ankita Mishra from his chamber.

Under the circumstances, the petitioners could not appear before the Court.

It is very surprising and unfortunate that in front of the High Court, miscreants abducted the woman from the chamber of the advocate forcefully, the Court said.

“Petitioner no 2 is at liberty to move appropriate application before appropriate authority for needful action. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Prayagraj / Superintendent of Police, Jaunpur is directed to look into the matter on priority basis and produce the woman before the Court on the next date of listing.”

“On the next date of listing, petitioners are directed to remain present before the Court,” the Court ordered, fixing the next hearing on May 17, 2022.

The petitioner had married a backward caste man. She filed a petition before the High Court seeking protection.

In the last hearing, it was alleged on behalf of the family members of the petitioner before the court that the kidnapping was done on behalf of the man. On this, the court decided to hear the woman’s side and had ordered her to appear before the court.
