Plea against Twitter: Delhi High Courts asks the petitioner to approach govt

New Delhi (ILNS): The Delhi High Court has today asked the petitioner to approach the government in a plea seeking criminal action against twitter and regulations for governing social media.

A divisional bench comprising Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Subramonium Prasad while hearing the plea through video conferencing noted that “merely because something you say is in the public interest doesn’t mean you don’t approach the Government first”.

The petition has been filed by Ms. Sangeeta Sharma stating that Twitter’s servers were used for the promotion of Khalistan, still, many users are having their user name as Khalistan or similar to Khalistan just to promote the anti-national activity.

Advocate Desh Ratan Nigam appearing for the petitioner submitted that there is a lot of anti-national activities going on, on Twitter.

Whereas, the bench was of the opinion that a representation should have been made to the Government with regards to the issue. In addition to this Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma submitted that the government should have been approached before reaching out to the Court.
