Uttarakhand High Court closes PIL raising issue of illegal encroachment of land belonging to Indian Railways at Kashipur

The Uttarakhand High Court closed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed  raising the issue of illegal encroachment over the land belonging to Indian Railways at Kashipur.    

The Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice  Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Justice Vivek Bharti Sharma granted time to counsel appearing for Railways for seeking instructions. 

On instructions, Lalit Sharma, Standing Counsel submits that Kashipur Railway Station is being renovated under ‘Amrit Bharat Yojna’, and the licensee, who are running shops inside the railway station, are being relocated to a place outside the railway station and the shops are being constructed to relocate such licensees. 

The letter issued by Divisional Engineer/First, Izzatnagar dated 05.06.2023, along with the letter dated 26.12.2023, issued by Assistant Divisional Engineer, Kashipur, are taken on record, which indicate that the shops are being constructed for relocating the existing licensees.

Accordingly, the Bench closed the petition, by taking a statement made by Standing Counsel appearing for respondent  authorities on record.
