Karnataka HC disposes of PIL challenging appointment of VC in Karnataka State Law University

The Karnataka High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed challenging the qualification/eligibility criteria for appointment of Vice Chancellor of the Karnataka State Law University, Hubbali.

The PIL, filed by an advocate, challenged the notification on the ground that the qualification/eligibility criteria mentioned in the notification is contrary to UGC Regulations, 2018.

The Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty while considering the PIL noted that the petitioner is not a person aggrieved by the notification.

“It is not the case of the petitioner that on account of poverty or illiteracy, persons who may be aggrieved by the notification dated 29.06.2022 are unable to approach this Court,” observed the High Court.

The Court was not inclined to examine the issue with regard to the validity of the notification dated 29.06.2022 raised in the PIL at the instance of the petitioner who is a practicing advocate.

“The issue with regard to validity of the notification dated 29.06.2022 is kept open. Accordingly, the petition is disposed of,” the order reads.
