Supreme Court to resume physical and hybrid hearing from February 14

The Supreme Court on Monday decided to resume physical hearing from February 14, as per its Standard Operating Procedure issued on October 7, 2021, which mandates hearing of all matters on Wednesday and Thursday, only physically.

According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court Registry, the decision was taken by Chief Justice (CJI) N.V. Ramana, in consultation with the Committee of Judges.

With the numbers of Covid-19 patients taking a downward trend and the country returning to pre-pandemic routine, the Supreme Court has decided to hold physical hearing two times in a week, on Wednesday and Thursday, said the order issued on October 7, 2021.

According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court Registry, “All the matters listed on Wednesday and Thursday as non-miscellaneous days, would be heard only in physical presence of the counsels/parties in Court-rooms. Three lawyers per party will be allowed inside the courtrooms, while clerks can carry files up to the courts.

“All matters, irrespective of their nature, listed on miscellaneous days, shall continue to be heard through
video/tele-conferencing mode till further orders,” it added.

The modified SOP will come into effect from October 20, 2021, said the statement.
