Delhi sealing case: Vacation bench hands it back to original bench

Reacting to an earlier suggestion by Additional Solicitor General (ASG) A N S Nadkarni that the Supreme Court monitor the Delhi illegal construction issue (against which the court has ordered sealing procedures) and give the stick to the authorities, forcing them to complete the task in a time bound manner, the vacation bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta on Wednesday (June 6) said the bench that was hearing the issue would be directing orders and entertain any plea if needed.

The case is being handled by the bench of Justices Adarsh Kumar Goel and Ashok Bhushan. The case came up for hearing, because today was the scheduled date of order.

The case will probably come up after the vacation.

The regular bench of Justices Goel and Bhushan had clearly said that it was the duty of the executive to execute orders. The bench had said that the court had other issues to deal with also.

In this case Supreme Court has stopped all kinds of construction in 1,797 unauthorized colonies in Delhi. The court has also asked the central government to set up a special task force for the purpose of removing encroachments on public lands and roads in Delhi.
