Dr KS Pillai, a 63-year-old retired professor and a resident of Mumbai, had filed a petition with the Bombay High Court, saying that the Centre’s GST should not be implemented from July 1 as announced, because the nation wasn’t ready. It should be done on April 1, 2018 instead.

The court agreed to hear the petition, but on June 29 the court’s bench of Justices VK Tahilramani and Sandeep Shinde reserved its order after hearing arguments.

Many state governments have come out with cautionary statements that GST could create havoc, especially in the MSME sector.
