Contempt proceedings will not help Delhi get oxygen, comments Justice Chandrachud

ILNS: The Supreme Court Special bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud today said that a contempt proceeding, putting government officers in jail, will not help Delhi get more oxygen. The judge said all need to work together.

Earlier in the day, Chief Justice NV Ramana had agreed to list before the bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud, the Delhi High Court order of Tuesday regarding the oxygen supply situation. This was as per a request from Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.

On Tuesday the Delhi High Court had asked Central government officials to be present in court. It had asked the officials to show cause why contempt proceedings may not be initiated against them. The Centre moved the top court against this order of the high court.
