Justice Subhasis Talapatra takes oath as 33rd Chief Justice of Orissa High Court

Judge of the Orissa High Court, Justice Subhasis Talapatra, took oath as the 33rd Chief Justice of the High Court on Tuesday, following the superannuation of former Chief Justice Dr. S. Muralidhar.

Governor of Odisha, Prof. Ganeshi Lal, administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Talapatra.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the name of Justice Talapatra for elevation in July this year, which was later approved by the Central government.

Justice Talapatra was born on October 4, 1961 at Udaipur, Tripura. He finished his graduation in Arts and Law from University of Calcutta and enrolled with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh on September 12, 1990.

He practiced mainly at Agartala Bench of the Gauhati High Court and appeared in various constitutional, civil and criminal matters. Later, he was designated as a Senior Advocate on December 21, 2004.

He took oath as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on November 15, 2011 and was appointed as a Permanent Judge of the Tripura High Court on September 13, 2013.

He served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Court twice, i.e. from 02.11.2018 to 13.11.2018 and again from 11.11.2019 to 15.11.2019.He was transferred to the Orissa High Court on June 1, 2022 and took oath of office on June 10, 2022.

He will have a very brief tenure of less than two months as the Chief Justice before he retires on October 3, 2023.
