Supreme Court Collegium recommends elevation of 8 judges as chief justices of high courts, transfers of chief justices also on the cards

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of 8 judges as chief justices of various high courts in the country, sources said.

Calcutta High Court Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal has been recommended to be elevated as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court. Justice Prakash Srivastava has been recommended to be elevated as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra has been recommended to be elevated as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Justice R.R. Awasthi has been recommended to be elevated as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court while Justice S.C. Sharma has been recommended to be elevated as Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court following Justice Hima Kohli’s ascension to the Supreme Court.

Similarly, Justice Aravind Kumar has been recommended to be elevated as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court in place of Justice Vikram Nath, now elevated to the Supreme Court.

Justice Ranjit V. More has been recommended to be elevated as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, and Justice R.V. Malimath has been recommended to be elevated as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Along with the elevations, the SC Collegium has recommended the transfer of the following Chief Justices.

Justice Arup Kumar Goswami from Andhra Pradesh to Chhattisgarh.

Justice Mohd. Rafiq from Madhya Pradesh to Himachal Pradesh.

Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi from Tripura to Rajasthan.

Justice Indrajit Mahanty from Rajasthan to Tripura.

Justice Biswanath Somadder from Meghalaya to Sikkim.

The Collegium decisions are yet to be uploaded on the Supreme Court’s website.
