The Supreme Court has provided relief to Abdullah Azam Khan, son of Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan. Abdullah Azam Khan had said that the Allahabad High Court had displayed “unusual haste” in asking the Election Commission to order bye-election to the Suar assembly seat.

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to start the process for holding the by-election in the Suar assembly constituency in Rampur district.

On Monday a five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether right to free speech and expression of persons holding public offices may be curtailed by other fundamental rights.
