Hathras case

SC today took serious note of the events in Hathras where a 19-year-old Dalit girl was gang-raped, tortured and then killed, allegedly by four upper caste men. Adding to her family’s woes, the UP police forcibly cremated her body in the dead of night. The top court termed these events as “shocking”.

A Public Interest Litigation has been placed before the Supreme Court, asking the apex court to take cognizance in the Hathras rape case.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the horrific Hathras gang rape case and the issue of the UP Police not handing the body of the victim to the family and cremating it forcefully at 2 am instead.
