Court grants anticipatory bail to man in North East Delhi riots case

Earlier, Rashid had knocked the doors of the court fearing his arrest in a case relating to the riots that broke out in the North East Delhi last year.


A local court has granted interim protection from arrest to a man whose father was arrested in a Northeast Delhi riots case, observing that police have not investigated his complaint and want to arrest him now.

While granting anticipatory bail to Rashid, Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav directed the police to file its reply in connection with the plea moved by Rashid.

Rashid is the son of Hashim Ali, whose case had drawn the attention of the court as he has been named both as an accused and a complainant as a result of a buzz are probe by the police.

Hashim Ali had filed a complaint regarding burning down of his house by a mob during the riots, however, later the same was clubbed with another FIR where he has been named as an accused.

“It is evident that the police did not investigate the complaint of the applicant and now wants to arrest him in the matter,” the court noted while granting relief to applicant of Rashid till the next date of hearing dated on April 24.

Advocate M.R. Shamshad appeared for Rashid while Special Public Prosecutor Nitin Rawat represented the Delhi Police.
