Supreme Court asks KalkaJi temple (Delhi) authorities to maintain cleanliness, put up barricades in premises

The Supreme Court today gave two weeks to Kalka Ji Temple authorities to implement a slew of measures suggested by the committee it had formed, that include cleanliness of the premises and putting up barricades to contain the crowd of devotees.

The bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Shiva Kirti Singh asked the authorities to clean the DDA parking as well as all the other parking areas, besides instructing them to keep the toilets clean.

“Volunteers should dispose of all the garbage bins and clean them also. They must also report to the committee and in case they fail to do so, appropriate steps will be taken,” the court said.
It was also brought to the notice of the court that the temple premises did not have any barricades which leads to unmanageable crowd and may cause stampede.

The court then directed to have three entry points which should be appropriately barricaded, and devotees should move in queues, and discipline should be maintained. It also said that a meeting should be held with authorities concerned and assistant commissioner of police to finalise the barricading measure.

The matter will now be heard on April 26.
