Anti-CAA protests: Delhi court grants bail to 22 in Seelampur violence

A Delhi court today granted bail to 22 people arrested in connection with violent protests against the amended Citizenship Act that erupted in Seelampur area of North-East Delhi.
Additional Sessions Judge Lalit Kumar granted the relief on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 15,000 each and a surety of the like amount.

Earlier on December 31, a Delhi court granted bail to four people arrested on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 each and one surety of like amount.

Delhi Police had arrested 16 people in connection with the violence and arson during the anti-Citizenship Act protests in Seelampur. Nearly 20 vehicles and other public properties were reportedly vandalized when protesters turned violent on December 17. A police picket was also burnt.

The Court also noted that the video footage the police produced did not show that the accused persons pelted stones or were in any manner involved in arson and destruction of property.
