Supreme Court Collegium elevates Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar as Manipur High Court Chief Justice

Justice Kumar secured a Law Degree from Delhi University in the year 1988 and enrolled as a member on the rolls of the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh in August 1988.

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. The recommendation was made on December 16, which was subsequently made official on January 25.

Justice Kumar was born on August 14, 1963, at Hyderabad to late P. Ramachandra Reddy and P. Padmavathamma. Ramachandra Reddy was the former Advocate General of Andhra Pradesh (1969 to 1982).

Justice Kumar pursued his graduation in Commerce from Nizam’s College, Hyderabad. Thereafter, he secured a Law Degree from Delhi University in 1988 and enrolled as a member on the rolls of the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh in August 1988.

He worked under the guidance of his father and gained exposure to various branches of law. After the retirement of his father from the profession, he practised independently and represented the High Court of Andhra Pradesh and Subordinate Judiciary, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited and the Special Officer, Urban Land Ceilings, Hyderabad, in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.

Justice Kumar also served as Government Pleader in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh from 2000-2003. Thereafter, he was elevated to the Bench as Additional Judge, High Court of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad, on August 8, 2008.

He assumed charge as Permanent Judge of High Court of Andhra Pradesh on 20.01.2010. Consequent upon transfer, Justice Kumar assumed charge as Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh, on 14.10.2019.
