The Supreme Court bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and M.M. Sundresh dismissed the plea of a Village Administrative Officer accused of corruption and bribery after observing that both the High Court of Madras & the Magistrate Court on proper appreciation of evidence arrived at a logical conclusion that the demand for bribe and acceptance of bribe had been proved against the petitioner.
Due to weak and ineffective anti-corruption laws, India has never been ranked among top 50 countries in Corruption Perception Index because the Centre has not strengthened laws to weed-out the menace of corruption, which brazenly offends rule of law and individual's right to live with dignity.
New Delhi (ILNS): The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Delhi has passed an order sentencing RP Bhatia, former Special Metropolitan Magistrate, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Lajpat Nagar, to undergo five years Simple Imprisonment and a fine of Rs 75,000 in a bribery case.
