Delhi court dismisses wrestler Sushil Kumar’s bail plea in murder case

Delhi Court on Tuesday dismissed the anticipatory bail application filed by double Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar, who is among the accused in the murder of a 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Rana at the Chhatrasal Stadium.

The order has been passed by the Additional Session Judge Jagdish Kumar, Rohini Court.

Anticipatory bail filed by Sushil Kumar submitted that he is the only Indian has one back to back Olympic medals- a feat that is unbeatable, and that he is a law abiding citizen with no criminal antecedents and has never been involved in any criminal proceedings.

The application further stated that the unfounded, baseless, scurrilous and preposterous allegations have been made against him maliciously with the only motive to humiliate and injure his reputation.

Whereas, the reply filed by the Delhi Police stated that Sushil Kumar and his associates are intentionally absconding and evading the arrest. It further added that Sushil Kumar is the main accused in the matter playing the key role in the commission of the offence.

“There is every apprehension that accused Sushil Kumar can use his criminal linkage to threaten the witnesses as he is very influential person and has muscleman backup”, Delhi Police added.

Counsel appearing for Sushil Kumar stated that the victim in the matter has a criminal background and even found to be a member to a local gang.

Delhi Police has already announced a reward of Rs. 1,00,000/- for the information leading to the arrest of Sushil Kumar.
